Who is The King of Rock?

Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. Fan's worldwide took time to remember the man who many called the "King". After thinking about this term "King", I started thinking about the various "kings" of our culture. Anybody who has set themself apart in their particular field is eligible for "king" status. Elvis - The King of Rock 'n' Roll, Michael Jackson - The King of Pop, Arnold Palmer - The King of Golf, and Richard Petty - The King of Stock Car Racing come to mind. Not to mention the many professional wrestlers who have laid claim to being "lords" over the squared-circle.

All of these have their followers and I realize that I too get caught up from time to time in honoring some of these men for their accomplishments. However, none of these men would be able to excel to the levels that they have in their respective professions if the One Who is King over them all didn't allow it.

No matter what we do or what we may accomplish, Jesus is King and Lord over every facet of life. Some of these men who have had this title bestowed upon them acknowledged Christ at times in their life. Elvis was noted for not wanting the title of "The King" unless it was specified that it was Rock 'n' Roll that he was the king of. I wonder if Elvis ever took the time to stop and think that Jesus was the TRUE King of Rock. Many people who considered themselves Christ followers at the time of Elvis' heyday thought that Rock 'n' Roll was Satan's music, wrongly placing the crown on the devil's head.

Whether it be music (of any genre), sports, or hand-basket weaving, Jesus Christ is Lord and King over it, and we would be terribly remiss to not acknowledge this very fact.

Abraham Kuyper said it well when he said “In the total expanse of human life there is not a single square inch of which the Christ, who alone is sovereign, does not declare,'That is mine!'”

When Jesus returns to this earth, his tattoo will say it best...
"On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords." Revelation 19:16

LOL, I'm thinking about Jesus being the King of Kings as Nascar and the King of Pop, lol. Lets not forget the King of Harts, but Jesus is that also.
