Pentecost

Today, many groups of congregating Christians will talk about Memorial Day, maybe about honoring the troops that have died to keep our country free, or possibly even the "soldiers" in "God's Army" that have laid down their lives to ensure that the Gospel message is spread.

I have no idea what the group I meet with will focus on but I wouldn't be shocked if it were Acts 2 and 4. While our group has been parked here in these two chapters for over a month, today Acts 2 has a special hallmark meaning. Today is Pentecost. In some sense it is the birthday of the church.

I don't have a lot of my own personal thoughts to give you on this topic except I encourage you to ponder on this a bit today and re-read Acts 1-2. Look at the events that lead up to this amazing experience. Think about what the Spirit did that day and how it affects us. Go ahead and read chapters 3-8 and see how what the spirit did at Pentecost affected the lives of the believers for the next three to five years. I would encourage you to read through the whole book of Acts and just bathe in the history of the church and the history of the spreading of the Gospel. As you read, pray that God would pour His spirit on you so, that with boldness and passion like never before, you will have a desire to glorify God, spread the Gospel, and live Jesus in every area and aspect of your life.

While your at it check out "The Internet Monk" and read his blog on this subject.

Besides our church having a Pentecost service, there were a few other churches that had a Pentecost service also. Darren wanted everyone in the church to wear red, he said it was the color of Pentecost. I think he only wanted us to wear it because it is Ohio State colors, LOL!
